We’ve all been there. You had a plan, you showed up, and for one reason or another it didn’t turn out the way you imagined. Navigating these moments can be challenging.

Here are a few tips to help you cope and get back on your feet.

Have other options. Always have a backup plan. While you can’t prevent certain things from happening, having a secondary game plan helps you pivot faster.

Pause and feel. Allow yourself to process your feelings. Doing so will give you time to gather yourself and move forward with a clear mind instead of irrationally.

Be grateful. Although seemingly counterintuitive, gratitude helps build perspective. It also puts you in a more positive state. Positive energy generally leads to positive outcomes. Always know that it could be worse.

Get moving. Get back up and keep moving. Failure can be a great teacher, and you can only show that you’ve learned your lesson by applying the skills that you acquired in the process. Moving forward gives you the chance to walk with resilience and not remain sidetracked by whatever didn’t go your way.

Give it time. Sometimes the things that you think are not in your favor are actually necessary to get you where you need to be. Maybe there is a specific reason why your plan didn’t work out. As time passes, clarity will reveal new paths.

When things don’t go your way, it can be confusing, frustrating, or just plain annoying. However, maintaining the right mindset and not staying stuck are keys to handling these moments. What other ways do you handle unexpected challenges?
