What is freedom to you? For many, freedom means not being bound by the judgment of others. For others, freedom is a financial status that allows you to live and do things without concern. True freedom, though, is a process of self-examination and awareness. It involves releasing limiting beliefs and expectations and accepting life and yourself as they are.

Freedom begins in the mind. Your thoughts control your emotions. They guide your actions and therefore the results. If you want to change the results you see, change the thoughts you think.

Here are a few ways to get you started on the path to personal freedom.

  1. Accept yourself
  2. Accept others
  3. Be honest
  4. Follow your gut
  5. Live with gratitude
  6. Live on purpose

Doing these things will help you become more relaxed and let go of unrealistic expectations that you have of yourself and others. Every change begins with a decision. Self-acceptance is the first step.

You can’t force others to change or act in a way that is pleasing to you. But you can decide what is acceptable for you and act accordingly. Being honest with yourself and the world around you takes away any chance of guilt or frustration. It gives others the fair opportunity to engage with you on a real basis.

Trusting your instincts is perhaps one of the most important skills that you can develop. Never bet against yourself! Even if the outcome isn’t what you had in mind, at least you have the assurance that you acted with integrity and self-respect.

Being grateful for what you have opens you up to receiving more. The better receiver you are, the more good things will come your way.

Finally, live on purpose. Find your life purpose and make the decision every day to nurture it. Walking in your purpose on purpose provides fulfillment and elevates every aspect of your life.
